Last week’s lecture taught us the difference about the literacy and digital literacy. Both of them are using a language to provide and receive information. However, literacy is a way to communicate, understand and explain. Cornell University offers a definition about the literacy, Digital literacy is the ability to find, evaluate, utilize, share, and create content using information technologies and the Internet (cited in Terry Heick, 2015.) Digital literacy is more detailed than literacy. Digital literacy uses more media and internet to communicate and understand. Moreover, we learn about the ‘WordPress’, people can share about their blog on it. This is a way for people that can show more their interest and their daily life. People can communicate more with people that they have the same interest and share about their own ideas. This class is different from the last semester. This semester is focus on the practice. Practice can always improve the skills that you possess. In the last semester, we learn about the information from the book. In this semester, we can according to the practice and improve our disadvantages. I consider this class will focus more on the internet in next classes. Internet is a necessary part in people daily life. Week 3
In the week3, we learned about how to make the video and what is the algorithms. The lecture was very dedicated to teach us how to make two video in to one. He taught us we need to find two videos on the youtube and then copy their URL into YouTubedoubler. This software is amazing that you can share the video with other people, even you can enjoys others videos. The most importantly is algorithms. The lecture taught us what is algorithms, where can we find the algorithms. Algorithms can searching the whole information through the internet and show what you want in a quick time. Algorithms has the ability to enable and assign the information is perceived by the users. In week 3 classes, we also learned about the the state of Australian internet use, Digital Inclusion, access and literacy in remote indigenous communities and the policy incentive to build digital literacy. There are more than nine out of ten Australian internet users consider that internet has become part of their daily life, they also think this important or very important. According to the lecture, there are still part of people in remote area has never access to the internet. Even the local residents in remote area has never know what is the laptop and the internet. When the researcher first time to visit there, only one house of twenty-four have an internet connection. The using of the internet has become a serious problem, moreover, the week 3’s reading introduced more about the using of the internet in remote area. The classes let me feel a lot, in every place, the will be extremes appears. People cannot achieve the real equal, also this cause Australians do not have equal levels of digital literacy.
Week 4
In week 4 class, we learned about the Tetrad of media effects. Marshall McLuhan published a book that summarized his views on the media in a concise media effect tetrad after his death. A tetrad is a social process that explains the adoption of technology by dividing the effects of technology into four categories and showing them simultaneously. McLuhan designed the tetrad as a teaching tool to express his rules in interrogative sentences. ‘What does the medium enhance? What does the medium make obsolete? What does the medium retrieve that had been obsolesced earlier? What does the medium reverse or flip into when pushed to extremes?’ The law of tetrad exists at the same time, not continuously or in time, which enables the questioner to explore the grammar and syntax of the media language. Visually, the tetrad can be depicted as four diamonds, forming an X with a medium name in the middle. The two diamonds on the left side of the tetrad are the enhancement and recovery properties of the medium. They are both graphic properties. The two diamonds on the right side of the tetrad are obsolete and inverted. Both diamonds are grinding. Moreover, we are going to put attention on the Assignment 2. The dead line of the Assignment 2 is Friday night, and also the assignment’s percentage is very important. In week 2,3,4, all classes talks about the digital community, the theme of this class is digital community. All the knowledge that we learn is around the class. For the further class, I consider that the coming class will talk more about the digital community. I am very interested in this course and I think I can learn more knowledge in class.
